I have been so tired lately that I haven't even had the energy to post in this thing. I plan to rectify that, but in the meantime, I have a new job. It's not a great job, but it'll tide me over until something suitable comes along. I work 1-9pm, Monday to Friday -- so if you're looking to get a hold of me, the best thing is to IM/email me in the morning.

Stay tuned, though. There's a *reason* I've been so exhausted lately -- I've been working on stuff.

You guys wouldn't believe how much better Metallica's Enter Sandman is when you speed it up by about 10% (they typically do that when performing it live, I've found).

I totally don't find that song irritating anymore. Huh.

Webcomic Talk

I've been thinking about the idea of categorizing the webcomics I read by approach. I'll get into this more later, but it's interesting to me that we lump all webcomics together in order to measure them in terms of "success", when some of those comics are radically different from each other.

Saying "webcomic" is like saying "tv show"; I don't think you can compare Lackadaisy to XKCD any more than you can compare Law & Order to The Drew Carey Show. They are completely different things --so why are we measuring them with the same yardstick?

So, sometime this weekend, I'm going to expand my thoughts on this. In the meantime, anybody who thinks this is an interesting topic of discussion can g'head and chime in whenever.

State of the Hurf Addurff

So okay... I'm not dead. I'm prioritizing my artwork and trying to find a day job, which is *like* dying, but less interesting. Here are my goals for the next few weeks:

1. Finish Rabbit Seasoning. It's an interesting project and one I've enjoyed doing -- I just need to get off my ass and do it. Since it's easiest, I'll do it first. Deadline: Sunday, August 5.

2. Fix my website. This means prioritizing the projects that will go there, of which there may be up to 5, including RCM*. It's a lot of work just to get the damn SITE un-screwed (Wordpress update killed most of my code), but soon. Deadline: June 1.

3. Do lots of illustrations for Cog Wars 01**. This will likely be a total of up to 40 pieces, so it's going to take a long time. Deadline (tentative): Winter 2009.

4. Misc stuff: Fan art, guest strips and other stuff is going to happen -- I swear. I'm just dealing with compute that won't work right, and a lot o life crap that I'm trying to sort out.

*Negotiations and talks with duneedon hve happened regarding some changes to RCM. I won't go into what they are, except to say that some will like what happens, and some won't.

**the_tall_man: I'm illustrating CW1 as if it's an identical product to CW0 -- I know it won't be, but this gives me a guideline, and changes can happen as they need to in order to accommodate the text.

SO, I used to have this tablet:

...and since I can't afford to replace my motherboard & CPU just yet, I decided on a different approach. I sold the tablet, and used the funds to buy one of these:

It's much less resource-heavy, smaller in size, and has a much more pen-to-paper feel than my previous ones did.

I won't get to really test-drive it until the weekend, but we'll see what happens.

Painting now. I'm very used to not using a tablet for airbrushy work; I've always preferred color fills, perfect gradients and stuff like that -- so this is me getting uot of my comfort zone a bit and playing with Painter.

This piece should be done by Sunday night, I would think.
